Questions for Obama

Here are some questions I have for Senator Barack Obama:

How do you define winning the war in Iraq?

Is it possible to still win the war and if so what specific steps would you take to achieve victory?

Do you agree with the recent military action in Somalia? Would you support ground troops in Somalia to track down Al Queda members? What makes our action in Somalia different from our mission in Iraq?

What action (if any) taken by another country warrants our military intervention?

Is there any scenario where unilateral military action is appropriate? If you were President would you ever act militarily without the backing of the United Nations?

What is your overall strategy to win the broader war on terror?

Do you believe that democracy can take hold in the middle east? If so how should our country help that type of government spread in that region?

Would you use military force to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon?

Is securing our borders a national security issue? If so, how would you deter illegal immigrants from entering the country?

The media often confers upon you the image of being a centrist. Your voting record suggests you are as liberal as Sen. Kennedy. How do you reconcile those differences? Are you a liberal or a centrist?

Name one policy initiative supported by Republicans that you agree with?

Your mother was Christian and your father was Muslim. What religion do you consider yourself today? What role does your religion have on your public life? What specific policy areas are effected by it?

What is the greatest moral issue facing our country and what can government do to address that problem?

Your book talks about your history of drug and alcohol abuse during college. Are you actively engaged in helping fight drug and alcohol abuse on college campuses? What advice do you have for young people who are tempted to go down the same path you went?

What is the greatest economic problem facing our country and what can government do to address that problem?

Without spending more money on the problem, how would you improve our public educational system?

Do you share Al Gore's view that global warming is occurring? If so what is the appropriate government response?

Besides getting elected to public office what is your life's greatest achievement?

What other jobs besides holding elected office have you had in the past?

Of all the legislation that you have sponsored and passed into law, which bill are you most proud of?

If elected President what would be your first public policy priority?

Here are some questions I have for Senator Barack Obama: HOW I WOULD ANSWER:

How do you define winning the war in Iraq?

A stable and elected government capable of governing itself and handling the strife within the country-which would mean a substantial, highly trained security force to enforce policy. I am actually intrigued by an idea proposed of dividing the region into 3 separate states free to govern themselves.

Is it possible to still win the war and if so what specific steps would you take to achieve victory?

Again, I do think that winning the war is possible but I do not think that retreat back into a terrorist state is an option. Working to strengthen the government and the home-grown security forces should be the goal. Our country and the world have an obligation to themselves to ensure the safety of its people; We accomplish this by assisting the world to stand on its own two feet and govern itself to a peaceful, democratic end-especially if we are called upon to do so. The war in Iraq is not only a call for help but it is a response to evil that was purpetrated against our country. Was Iraq a mistake? No more than having the great courage to do NOTHING as the majority of the world has done as well as some members of our own Congress who would weaken our nation by having us cower and subjigate our hard fought freedom to the changing whim of the United Nations.

Do you agree with the recent military action in Somalia? Would you support ground troops in Somalia to track down Al Queda members? What makes our action in Somalia different from our mission in Iraq?

I would be in favor of continued efforts to hunt down members of Al Queda, which would include military assets.

What action (if any) taken by another country warrants our military intervention?

Refusal to abide by sanctions imposed against injustices such as crimes against humanity, such as those purpotrated by the former Sadam Hussein administration. Was the defining factor of this war really whether or not he had WMD's? Or was it the fact that he had shown no respect for the world, much less his own people, and was capable of ANYTHING? Did we really need to find the evidence right away, or did we already have enough burden of proof in terms of the countless lives lost at the hands of that madman and his family?

Is there any scenario where unilateral military action is appropriate? If you were President would you ever act militarily without the backing of the United Nations?

I definitely think that it is appropriate to act in the interest of defending the security of our country as President Bush did following the 9/11 attacks.

What is your overall strategy to win the broader war on terror?

Continue to fill the gaps in border security such as the illegal immigrants flowing in from Mexico as well as increased funding to secure the cargo areas along the coasts. There have been too many indications of how easy it would be to ship a weapon into this country aboard a cargo container.

FETZ-THESE ARE ALL GREAT QUESTIONS AND MAYBE IF I FEEL UP TO ANSWERING THE REST, I WILL. BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK? SHOULD I CHALLENGE HIM TO A DEBATE?!? =)
